Tropfest South East Asia, the newest addition to the world’s largest short film festival, has today revealed the 16 finalists in the running to take home the Tropfest SEA trophy and a cash prize of US $12,000 on February 1, 2015.
With five countries represented in the final shortlist, filmmakers from Cambodia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Vietnam will all be vying for the coveted winner’s spot and unbeatable prizes on Festival Night. Each film will have their world premiere at Tropfest SEA 2015 in front of a crowd of thousands of international film enthusiasts.
Among the live judges making the final decision on February 1 will be famed cinematographer, Christopher Doyle. With credits including the iconic In the Mood for Love (2000), Paris Je T’Aime (2006), and 2046 (2004), Doyle has been one of the most sought-after cinematographers in the industry for over thirty years.
The night will also feature live performances from some of Malaysia’s top musicians, including soul sensation Dasha Logan (No.1 on UK Soul Chart), The Jamie Wilson Trio and Platform 11.
SATELLITE FESTIVAL EVENTS
In the lead-up to the Festival Night on February 1, Tropfest SEA will be hosting a series of film-related events, including a two-night film showcase (6pm – 11pm, January 28-29, Hin Bus Depot Art Centre), screening top feature and short films from across the region and beyond.
January 31 will see the return of Tropfest’s extremely popular satellite film forum, Roughcut (9am – 6pm, January 31, Hotel Jen). The programme contains a special two-hour cinematography masterclass conducted by Christopher Doyle, as well as regional and international speakers including Mike Ellis (President of Motion Picture Association, Asia Pacific), Sheila Timothy (film producer and President of the Association of Indonesian Film Producers), and Ms.Teng Lee Yein (Senior Vice President, Astro).
