The annual Penang Pesta Dragon Boat Race is back this year, on 7 and 8 December 2013 at the scenic Teluk Bahang Dam. Watch the exhilarating sports of dragon boating as 40 local and international teams with a total of 1300 athletes from Malaysia, Australia, China, Brunei, Iran and many more battle out for this much anticipated race.
The categories for the competition is as below:
1) Malaysia Premier Open – 100m & 250m (22 Racers) ~ *for Malaysian crews only
2) International Premier Open – 100m & 250m (22 Racers)
3) International Premier Women – 100m & 250m (12 Racers)
4) International Premier Mixed – 100m& 250m (12 Racers)
5) International Senior 40 Open – 100m & 250m (12 Racers)
6) International Junior U23 Open – 100m & 250m (12 Racers)
7) International Junior U23 Mixed – 100m & 250m (12 Racers)
8) Malaysia Premier Open – 2 x 250m Relay (12 Racers) ~ *for Malaysian crews only
9) International Premier Open – 2 x 250m Relay (12 Racers)
10) International Premier Women – 2 x 250m Relay (12 Racers)
11) International Premier Mixed – 2 x 250m (12 Racers)
12) International Senior 40 Open – 2 x 250m Relay (12 Racers)

14) International Junior U23 Mixed – 2 x 250m Relay (12 Racers)
Dragon boating has been around in Penang since the 1950s and it is part of Penang’s heritage. The sports promotes discipline, teamwork and perseverance.
Members of the public and welcomed to watch the race. Food stalls serving local delicacies will be available on the event day.
