Balik Pulau Durian season has begun from June to September this year, a little later than last year but is expected to be more around the fasting month. The result of massive campaign by the Penang State Government, Penang Durian has become a brand that needs no further introduction. It’s a chance for locals and tourists to sample exotic durian varieties such as Hor Lor, Red Prawn, Kun Poh, Ang Bak, Musang King, Kapri, Labu and Thorn.
Moreover, there will also be a “Durian Festival 2015 Peringkat Negeri Pulau Pinang” to be held at Nibong Tebal to boosts popularity of South Seberang Perai through Durian Festival. Also to introduce “Durian OCHEE” as the Winner of The Agriculture Council of Penang Season Year 2013 & 2014, which is originated from Sg Baong, South Seberang Perai, Penang.
In addition, The Ministry of Tourism & Culture and Tourism Malaysia have joined hands with the Taman Negara Pulau Pinang, Penang Homestay Association, Penang Hop On Hop Off and the Malaysia Association of Hotels (Penang Chapter) to promote the Pearl of the Orient as an attractive durian destination by organising the first Homestay Durian Festival Penang 2015 from 13 June to 21 June 2015 at Esplanade Taman Negara Penang, Teluk Bahang.
Ardent durian lovers now have the opportunity to satisfy their cravings for over 18 types of durians and local fruits apart from uncountable variants of durians at the durian festival. During this durian festival, 10 durian entrepreneurs from local orchards and the Penang Homestay Association will showcase their durians and visitors will get to enjoy the best durians and local fruits under one roof at the Esplanade Taman Negara, the heart of Teluk Bahang, for the whole week.
