Penang’s most anticipated Japanese cultural festival is back this year with exciting games, mouth watering Japanese food, exotic performances and more. It will be held on 16 July 2015 from 6.00pm to 11.00pm at the Esplanade.
Bon Odori, a traditional and merry Japanese festival that is celebrated with dance and lively drum performances to welcome the homecoming of ancestral spirits. This festival is a Japanese Buddhist observance that honours the spirit of ancestors, who return once a year to visit their families. The carnival-like atmosphere at Esplanade is made ever merrier with stalls selling a variety of local and Japanese food, firework displays, Japanese souvenirs, lively performances and games.
There will be over 50 stalls selling authentic Japanese food, handicrafts and games. Three groups specially imported from Japan will be performing during the night. First dance will be a Yosakoi dance group from Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture followed by Kasurino-Kai (traditional Japanese folk dances) and a professional Shamisen (Japanese guitar) player and a singer.
Local performance groups will also be performing such as Wadaiko Drum Performance by Penang Japanese School (Penang), Soran Bushi Dance by Sekolah Menengah Sultan Abdul Halim, Yosakoi Dance by Sekolah Menengah Sains Kepala Batas and many more.
Additional excitement for this year will be a Lucky Draw contest comprises of fabulous prizes such 2 air tickets to Phuket by Firefly, air ticket to Guangzhou or Japan by China Southern Airlines, hotel vouchers, ISONIC LED TV, Air Cooler and many more.
