The Butterworth Fringe Festival returns this year onAugust 13 and 14at Jalan Jeti Lama in Butterworth with exciting art installations and exhibitions, film screenings, live performances and much more, all free to the general public.
BFF 2016’s highlight event is JinnyBoy TV – a presentation and Q&A session for keen videographers by Malaysia’s biggest YouTubers. International acts will include the ‘street performer’s street performer’ – Australian Anthony Livingspace, who has wowed audiences for nearly 30 years with his thrilling street theatre. Also in attendance will be Spaniards Miguel and Nelly with their jaw-dropping re show, as well as award-winning, chainsaw-juggling, unicycle-riding DynaMike from Canada.
Bringing things closer home is the interactive art project Kata-Kata 2100 that questions the influences of culture, technology and more on the development of the Malaysian language. While art exhibition Sampan pays tribute to Jalan Jeti Lama, Malaysian artist Jamil Zakaria’s wire mesh monkey sculptures bring a touch of whimsy to the festival.
There will also be a Potehi glove puppet theatre performance and creative workshops to let out your inner artist. Classical Indian music by Hamid Khan band and dance performances by Manora of Kelantan, Urumee Melum are some of the other highlight events of BFF, as well as the appearance of giant Snuff Puppets and a Same Same photobooth.
