Bring your family and friends to Penang’s Boria Festival 2016 from 8.00pm onwards at Fort Cornwallis. Boria performance is oriented from the colorful era concept. The presentation of each group has a different theme such as movie themes, tale, fairyland and animation. There will also be a parade by all groups involved starting from Jalan Tun Syed Sheh Barakbah to Fort Cornwallis and it will be witnessed by invited VIPs and other invited guests.
In addition to that, Boria is a very special art form, unique only to Penang. Organized by Jabatan Kebudayaan dan Kesenian Negara Pulau Pinang, the Festival will showcase 9 of the best Boria Troupes in Penang this year, merged into one very exciting comedy sketch show.
A typical Boria troupe consists of a leader, a chorus, comedians and musicians. The performance normally begins with a short comic sketches and followed by a song-dance routine featuring a juxtaposition of choral and solo parts.
The song-dance routine commonly performed in a western music style and with dance forms such as rumbas, Cha-cha-cha or soul. Boria’s theme varies from Arab warriors, European traders to Chinese shopkeepers around which the costumes and comic improvisations revolved.
